The Air in Between
With Detel Aurand
The Air in Between is an exhibition project based on an ongoing postal exchange of art works between Claudia Hausfeld (*1980, East-Berlin) and Detel Aurand (*1958, West-Berlin). In 2017 the two artists started a conversation by sending each other letters, drawings, paintings, collages, photographs and objects via mail, addressing topics of (island) life here and there, then and now. Over the years, this dialogue has meandered through many colors, materials, and ideas. The exhibition at the Akureyri Art Museum gathers traces of this exchange and extends it to the visitors. By embedding selected works from the recent years in a new installation on site, the exhibition addresses questions of collective and individual artistic practice, proximity and distance, center and periphery, commonality and demarcation.

Accompanying the exhibition, the artists published a Riso printed booklet that reproduces two notebooks of collages they sent to each other, alongside their letters.
